Validation with bank card
How to purchase and validate single tickets with a bank card on the metro and TMB buses. It's easy, fast and completely digital.
Texts in Catalan.
On the bus
When you get on the bus through the first door, you will find a reader in front of the cab. It is the contactless bank card reader that allows you to buy and validate the single bus ticket in a single step, just by approaching the card.
Card reading buys and validates a single ticket for a particular bus.
In the metro
In some metro accesses, there is a special validation machine thay allows you to buy and validate a single ticket with a bank card.
Bank cards accepted and validation
The bank card reader accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards in any format (card, mobile or watch). Although some organisations may apply a pre-authorisation higher than the price of the ticket, the payment will correspond to the current amount of the single ticket. If you are travelling with more people who also need a single ticket, you will need to hold the card close to the reader as many times as there are people.
The bank card reader emits a short sound on one note to indicate that the purchase and validation are correct. It also displays a message on the screen. If there has been any incident in the reading, the sound is on two notes.
If the payment card is not valid, you will need to use another one. If the reading was incorrect, you will need to pass the card, mobile or watch back over the reader.
Digital tickets
This purchase and validation system is completely digital. This means that the machine does not issue any physical tickets. If you have used this purchase and validation system and there is a ticket inspection, you only need to let the inspectors know the last four digits of the card you paid with. This provides proof that single tickets have actually been purchased with this card and for this particular journey.
