Large exhibition of restored historic trains

The space located in front of the Farinera del Clot cultural centre, in the Plaça de les Glòries area, hosts the exhibition of historic trains restored to mark the Metro’s Centenary, under the name The Centenary Trains. The railway heritage of the Barcelona Metro.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to discover five historic trains and walk through their interiors via walkways positioned at the height of the different carriages, on a route accessible to everyone.

In addition, the exhibition includes a shop where exclusive Metro Centenary products can be purchased, perfect for keeping a memento of the celebration.

Admission is completely free.

When?

The exhibition opens from November 15 to January 10 during the following hours:

• Monday to Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Weekends: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

You can access the interior of the exhibition up to 30 minutes before closing time.

The space will remain closed on Christmas and New Year's Day.

TMB exhibits trains from five iconic series that, from the start of service in 1924 until relatively recently, transported passengers on their metro journeys. The cars from series 100, 300, 400, 1100, and 3000 will be on display inside a large 1,200 m² marquee located on the esplanade in front of the Farinera del Clot.

This exhibition shows the trains as they were when they were retired. The restoration began in 2024 in a process approved by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage of the Generalitat, as some of the vehicles are Cultural Assets of National Interest (BCIN). All the cars have undergone thorough interior and exterior cleaning, floor repairs, and restoration of frames, windows, doors, side panels, and other elements to make them suitable for visitors. Lighting has also been reinstated in passenger areas and driver cabins. On the exterior, damage has been repaired and the trains have been wrapped in the colors they bore when they ceased commercial service.

One of the challenges of this exhibition has been to find the exhibition space and prepare it with concrete slabs to install the rails that will have to support the more than 200 tons of weight of the five trains. The esplanade, well connected by metro, train, bus and tram, has a railway past, since in front of the Farinera del Clot there were train tracks and, very close to the current cultural center, the maintenance facilities of the Tarragona, Barcelona and France Railways Company (TBF).
